A small series created during the pandemic of 2020 and 2021 using image transfers, acrylic skins and natural Amate Bark and decorative papers. Dead birds (in this case, a Hermit Thrush) have long been featured in art throughout history, and strangely enough, they often represent rebirth. Many people do not understand this series, while I have had many love it. Perhaps the original poem below will help explain. Regardless, this series really taught me how to improve my image transfer and acrylic skin making skills. Sizes range from 4” x 4” to 10” x 8”, so all are fairly small works. Eventually I would like to frame them and include them in some exhibition in the future…for now I will be holding onto them.

My original photograph of the Hermit Thrush…a large sheet of watercolor paper provided the perfect background. I especially love the shadow…look closely and you will even see the shadow of the birds foot on its wing.

Secondary original photograph - the bird was then later isolated from the background for use in the collages.
